Alan Davies

President, International Operations, Iron Ore

Alan Davies was appointed president, International Operations for Rio Tinto's Iron Ore business in January 2011, a global accountability for operations and projects outside of the Pilbara.  This includes the existing operations and expansions at Iron Ore Company of Canada, projects and joint ventures at Simandou, Guinea and Orissa, India, and global iron ore acquisition or development opportunities.

For the previous four years, Alan held dual roles as chief financial officer for the Iron Ore group, as well as managing director of Global Development.  This was an extensive accountability that included the Orissa project, global merger and acquisition and development activities, Resource Development, and Integrated Operations and Planning, within which was the Operations Centre at the Perth Airport.

Prior to joining the Iron Ore group in 2007, Alan held the position of chief financial officer of Rio Tinto Energy America Inc., based in Gillette, Wyoming USA.

Alan began his career with the Rio Tinto Group in 1997 with Pacific Coal in Brisbane, and has subsequently held positions across the Group.

Before joining Rio Tinto, Alan worked at Coopers & Lybrand in Brisbane, now PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Alan holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) and a Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney.

Alan is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Board Member of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
