David Peever

Managing director, Australia 

David Peever was appointed to the role of managing director of Rio Tinto in Australia in November 2009.

In this role David looks after the interests of our business in Australia while working closely with shareholders, governments, regulators and other key stakeholders.

David has been with Rio Tinto since 1987 working in an extensive range of roles including sales and marketing, business analysis, industrial relations, mining operations, continuous improvement and human resources.  He has held a number of senior management positions.
 
In late 2005 David undertook a secondment with BP Shipping as part of a development program ahead of his appointment as managing director Rio Tinto Marine from 2006 to 2012.

David is a Councillor of Business Council of Australia, as well as Chairman of the BCA Economic Policy and Competitiveness Committee, Vice Chairman of Minerals Council of Australia, member of the Male Champions of Change Advisory Group, as well as a member of the Department of Defence Gender Equality Advisory Board, Chairman of Northparkes Joint Venture, member of Melbourne Storm Advisory Board and Chairman of the Rio Tinto Staff Superannuation Fund.

David graduated from James Cook University with an economics degree and later completed a Masters of Science in Mineral Economics from Macquarie University.
