Steven Din

Managing director and president, Simandou

Steven Din is the managing director and president for the Simandou project located in Guinea, West Africa. The project remains a strategic asset in Rio Tinto's global iron ore portfolio and is significant in the context of the Guinean economy. Steven was appointed to the role of managing director in 2009 and has been based in Conakry, Guinea since June 2009.

In previous roles, Steven has held positions with Rio Tinto as senior vice president for the Iron & Titanium business (2006 - 2009) encompassing operations in South Africa, Madagascar and Canada; chief financial officer for the Palabora Mining copper mine in South Africa (2004 - 2006); chairman of the Palabora Foundation (2004 - 2006) and member of the Rössing Uranium Audit Committee (2004 - 2006). Steven is a member of Rio Tinto's Iron Ore Executive Committee (ExCo).

Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Steven was with Schlumberger Oilfield Services (1995 - 2000) where he had a truly international career in senior roles across Europe and Africa.

Steven holds a first degree in chemical engineering and is a chartered management accountant with over 20 years' in-depth experience in the oilfield, alumina, copper, titanium and, currently, iron ore sectors.
