Working in Canada
The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada. IOC operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletising plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Iles, Québec, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The company also operates a 418-kilometre railroad that links the mine to the port.
Labrador City offers all the amenities of any modern urban centre. Good schools, medical facilities, sporting and recreational areas, shopping centres and plenty of outlets for entertainment.
There is a lot to do in Labrador City all year round. During the summer, activities such as golf, shooting, fishing, walking on the many beautiful walk trails, the annual regatta and taking part in summer festivals are all popular. During the winter months, both downhill and cross country skiing are 'must do' sports. There are also facilities for ice-hockey, skating curling and snowmobiling on specially prepared trails.
Sept-Iles is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, 640 kilometres east of Québec City. It was built on the shore of a large circular bay which is protected by a group of seven islands that gave the city its name.
The city is home to around 25,000 people and has good health, housing, recreational and educational services. There are two national parks within easy reach of the city.
These are popular with hikers, birdwatchers and those who enjoy a summer picnic. In winter, skiing and skating are good ways to enjoy the day.
