Community support and consultation
Community Advisory Panel (CAP)
The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) works closely with local communities to build an understanding of how the company impacts its environment, and how both the company and the communities can create opportunities for each other for long-term sustainable success.
In 2007 the creation of Community Advisory Panels (CAPs) in both locations assisted IOC to take community relations' decisions and define action plans in the best interest of the communities and the company. IOC is proud to work with its community partners to solve issues that impact all members of the community.
Comprising an IOC chairperson and representatives from the local community, the CAP meet quarterly to discuss issues of mutual interest and play an active role in a variety of matters from environmental issues to internal company strategies.
Site Managed Assessment (SMA)
In 2010, Site Managed Assessments (SMA) of our community relations practices in Labrador City and Sept-Îles indicated the company is well-recognised and appreciated as a valuable contributor to both communities. The assessment also identified opportunities for improvement, like the need to undertake socio-economic baseline studies and to develop clear community relations plans.
