Land use agreement compliance

Existing agreements in the Pilbara region include:

Yandi Land Use Agreement (1997)

In March 1997, Hamersley Iron reached one of the first major land use agreements in the Pilbara with the Innawonga Bunjima and Niapaili (IBN) Peoples. The agreement primarily relates to the Yandicoogina iron ore project and provides for all mining and infrastructure titles for the life of the project and for exploration over the native title claim area.

West Angelas Project Agreement (1999)

Robe River Mining Company and the Gobawarrah Minduarra Yinhawanga (GMY) people have an agreement in relation to the West Angelas mine. It covers an area that includes that part of the mine within the GMY claim and surrounding related infrastructure (such as the railway).

West Angelas Project Rail Infrastructure Agreements (1999)

Robe River Mining Company entered into a number of agreements with native title claimants over the construction of the West Angelas railway. These agreements covered several groups who were affected to varying extents and under these agreements Robe committed to deliver benefits to local communities, including employment, education and training opportunities and financial payments.

Eastern Guruma Indigenous Land Use Agreement (2001/2002)

Hamersley Iron and the Eastern Guruma People have a long standing relationship which is documented in a commercial agreement and indigenous land use agreement. The agreement between the parties is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in Australia and was the culmination of over six years of extensive consultation and negotiation. It covers the determined area of the Eastern Guruma native title claim including the Tom Price minesite, the Brockman No 2 minesite, the Marandoo minesite and part of the railway between Tom Price and Dampier.
