Wickham/Pt Samson/Roeburne

Located 1572 kilometres north of Perth and approximately 65 kilometres from the regional centre of Karratha, Wickham was constructed in 1970 and is named after J.C. Wickham, the captain of HMS Beagle, who surveyed the north-west coast in 1840.

The town is adjacent to the original Pilbara settlements of Cossack (1863), Roebourne (1866) and Point Samson (1910).

The local Wickham Showground was built in 1980 and a School Community Library was established in 1985. Recreational facilities have also been established and include a swimming pool, tennis court, indoor cricket net, squash centre, football, cricket and rugby grounds, netball and basketball courts, and Community Centre.

There are many active junior and senior sporting clubs in town. Fishing is also a popular past time and there are three boat ramps in close vicinity to the town.

Community services include a shopping centre, childcare centre, primary school, church, medical centre, Lifestyle Centre, and volunteer emergency services.

Today, Wickham has a multicultural population of approximately 1800 and the many young families are representative of the community's youthful demographic.
